THE GODS ARE NOT TO BLAME

THE GODS ARE NOT TO BLAME is a new African Theatre Play, Tragedy at LOST Theatre. The Gods Are Not To Blame is a 1968 play and a 1971 novel by Ola Rotimi. An adaptation of the Greek classic Oedipus Rex, the story centers on Odewale, who is lured into a false sense of security, only to somehow get caught up in a somewhat consanguineous trail of events. The novel is set in an indeterminate period of a Yoruba kingdom. This reworking of Oedipus Rex was part of the African Arts (Arts d'Afrique) playwriting contest in 1969.

Professor Wole Soyinka turns 80 this Year.
Nigerian Wole Soyinka - the first African to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. A recurring theme in his work is opposition to dictatorship and to the use of force, in his homeland and elsewhere. His trade is literature. But that doesn't prevent Wole Soyinka, who turns 80 on Sunday (13.07.2014), from expressing trenchant views on domestic Nigerian politics.

For the new head of NHS England this was the first great test. Would he dare speak truth to power about the near-death state of NHS finances? Yesterday, he did. He said it loud and clear – £8bn is the minimum needed, no ifs, no buts. He didn’t pretend about the money, as his predecessor did: the NHS is flatlining in intensive care and he says pay freezes can’t continue.

The African Film Awards 2014 was hosted by Mike Abiola, Founder of Africa's Top Newspaper -  African Voice, and sponsored by Lebara Mobile. Award winning Nigerian Personalities came out to celebrate and deliver the African Film Awards at the Greenwich Odeon.
Mike, Abiola, Accompanied by his wife Golda John and invited On Screen Personalities; such as Omoni Oboli, (Winner of Best Actress), Omo Baba and Malaki Kirby - lit up the Odeon Floor collecting Awards and showcasing up and coming talent in the UK and abroad.
